"Climate Change Fiction: A Brief Presentation."

Résumé

Growing awareness of global warming is becoming an increasing preoccupation of contemporary fiction writing across the Channel. A growing number of authors, both established and less established, have taken up the subject, such as Jeanette Winterson, in The Stone Gods, who tackles the subject of the great extinctions through a science fiction narrative combining satire and humour; Ian McEwan, in Solar, who stages the issue of denial in a satirical way; or more recent texts such as Paul McAuley's Austral or Marcel Theroux's Far North, which take up the conventions of the exploration narrative through the prism of dystopia. In each of these novels, the question of the Anthropocene and its effects on the living world is brought to the fore, reminding us of the ethical imperative not to save the planet, but to react to environmental and social vulnerabilities.
